Originally from Wiltshire, Beatrice completed her Master of Arts degree in cello performance, on scholarship from the Royal Academy of Music in 2013, having studied with Guy Johnston. She graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2011 with a first class degree, studying with Kathryn Price.
Beatrice is now a successful freelancing musician and is the newest member of the Mavron Quartet based in Cardiff. She is on the Live Music Now scheme with Bethan Semmens and the Laurent Quartet as well as the CAVATINA Chamber music scheme with the Mavrons. She was awarded the ‘Cardiff Violins Chamber Award’, and ‘The Gabb & co’ prize with the Newman String Quartet and did an outreach tour to Belfast with the Beaman Quartet. She has performed with Ensemble Cymru and is a member of Cellini – a cello quartet. She has performed at many high profile events across the UK including the NATO summit (2014), Opening of Welsh Assembly – WMC (2011), and enjoys using chamber music to benefit others.
Solo engagements have seen her perform the Elgar and Haydn C concertos as well as recitals across the UK. In 2007 she was awarded ‘Bath Young Musician of the Year’, and the ‘Luis Bertrand Scholarship’ after 6 years on the ‘Curso Internacional de Musica Mastisse’ Summer Course, Madrid. In 2011 she was awarded the ‘Friends of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’ prize upon graduation. Beatrice has performed in Masterclasses with Anna Shuttleworth, Tim Hugh, Leonid Gorokov and Colin Carr, and has appeared at the Iford Arts Festival.
As a freelance orchestral musician, Beatrice has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru, British Sinfonietta, and Cinematic Sinfonia across the UK and Europe. Session work has included performances and recordings for BBC2 (‘How we won the War’), channel S4C (‘Heno’), Radio Wiltshire, Three London Planes, John Owen Jones, Pink Martini, Katherine Jenkins, John Cale and Alfie Boe.
Beatrice teaches privately in Cardiff and London and is assistant deputy teacher to Kathryn Price at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Junior Department, and also on the ‘Curso Internacional de Musica Mastisse’ Summer Course. She is also a member of the support staff for Gwent Music Service.
Beatrice plays a 19th Centuary German cello which has been in the family for many generations – her bow is by John Stagg.
